The apocrypha is a collection of books that were originally published in the 1611 King James Bible (KJV). These apocryphal books were located between the Old and New Testaments, along with maps and genealogies. The apocrypha remained a part of the KJV for 274 years until it was removed in 1885 A.D. Some groups, such as the Catholic Church, referred to certain portions of these books as deuterocanonical books.

The 70 missing verses in 2 Esdras are not included in the King James Version Apocrypha but are found in the Cambridge Annotated Study Apocrypha (edited by Howard C. Kee). These verses can also be found in the NRSV Holy Bible with the Apocrypha by Oxford University Press.

The term 'apocrypha' meaning 'hidden,' finds connections to Dead Sea Scrolls predating 70 A.D. which contained portions of these books in Hebrew like Sirach and Tobit.
